This is not an infection it is the skin’s reaction to the venom.

Some individuals come to the emergency room thinking that there is an infection because of the worsening swelling. These reactions are often referred to as large local reactions. However, some reactions will become more pronounced, reaching its peak in 24 to 48 hours. Most reactions are relatively mild and resolve within 24 hours. The reaction is promoted by the release of histamine in the skin. The venom will cause pain, swelling, redness and itching at the site of the sting.

Local reactions are much more common than systemic reactions.
